Leroy likes cabbage

Leroy is a funny cat. He is crazy about white cabbage. When he sees one, he meows and stretches with his front paws on my legs and asks and demands a piece of it! I googled and found that white cabbage is not bad for cats (and most cats do not care about it at all) so he gets it once in a while.

He is so happy when he gets it, he likes it more than his favorite cat candy! Archimedes (Ash), his grandson, is crazy about melons and Leroy likes them too, but he does not get them, because of all the sugar they contain.

Our other cats do not understand Leroy’s excitement about the cabbage. They tried and keep on trying to chew on it, but – nothing! They just do not like it.

Albert does not understand! Why does grandpa think that cabbage is tasty?

Jossan actually hit Leroy today on the head lightly with her paw after she tried a piece of cabbage (again) and found (again) that it does not taste well!

She thought that Leroy is silly and was so upset that she had to hit him in order to demonstrate how frustrated she was. It was funny.

She does that seldom, since Leroy is her dad who brought her up and she is not really bossing him around, but she is still a queen, which makes her and her opinions very important in our little cat pride. Cats do not have ranks like dogs, they have different roles, that do include a bit of ranking, but it is more loose and different than in dog packs.

Jossan does not understand either.

Leroy turns five today!

Our beloved Leroy turns five today! He got extra cat candy today and also we brushed his teeth a little longer than usual (that is a present he did not want!) and we played a lot with him and the other cats. Now he is lying in my lap as I am writing this. He seems pretty pleased with the day so far.

Leroy is the reason we started breeding Siamese in the first place.  He was the coolest and the most charismatic cat we’ve ever seen. Social, never scared of anything, smart, emotional and loving. He took care of Jossan, Miii and all of Jossans kittens, he brought them up. He still takes care of the whole mini lions’ pride, checks if everyone is around and patrols the house regularly. He is our Siamese #1 in every sense.

This was the happiest day in Leroy’s life, when we (or – he) got Jossan:

Josephine, Leroys daughter, moves to us in March 2008. Leroy is 15 months old.

Ada and Alfred, summer 2011

Ada and Affe who moved together to their new home last year had an exciting summer! Here they are, enjoying lovely Swedish summer (the pictures are taken in July). Ada is blue (darker), Affe is lilac (lighter). It is so nice to see them all grown up and big and so well taken care of.

"Wait for me, Ada!"

On the island

Thank Jenny for these and many more pictures you have sent us. Also, a big thank you to all the kittens’ owners for the pictures and updates, we are so happy when we get them.

Jossan, October 2011

I look at Jossan in amazement every day. This little, slender cat that weighs 3kg and still looks like a kitten is mom of 11 big kittens. She is still my baby and looks the same as she did 3 years ago. She is turning 4 in December this year.

This is a picture of her in our corridor, taken by our friend Daniel Brolund. He took it really fast; he entered the house at the same moment as she exited the room. She was so surprised to see him coming in.

I like the reflex in the mirror that shows her perfect profile. She is so beautiful!

5 weeks photo session

We took a few pictures of the kittens two days ago. Jossan wanted to be a model as well.

Seal point Siamese kitten, 5 weeks old and her lilac point mom

The kittens have very long legs; disproportionally long legs, and that looks really funny. Here is one picture of the white boy, a bit blurry, but you’ll get what I mean with ‘very long legs’…

More pictures coming soon.

Jossan, day 65

Jossan is very big and close to delivery. The kittens will arrive probably tomorrow or on Wednesday at latest. She eats well, but she gets hiccups after every meal. It is not easy with a belly full of kittens!

She is less nervous than the first time. We have arranged one room for her and the upcoming litter and she does seem happy with the tipis and other furniture. The new things from Germany did not arrive yet, but the kittens will not leave the small tipi for the first two weeks, so that is fine. We hope that the delivery goes well!

Show brag

Two weeks ago Antoine (whose pet name now is Tjabo) was exhibited in Umeå. He got two CAC (which is wonderful!) and very high marks from the judges! This is how the judges described the beautiful lilac boy (ex stands for excellent):

TYPE: Very long, strong muscled body ex high on legs. Still a teenager, babyround.

HEAD: ex strong prophile ex.wedge. Nice length of the triangle. Almost straight sidelines. Sharp profile, could have more height om forehead.

EYES: beautiful deep blue. Nice shape and size, ex deep blue colour.

EARS: ex size, medium low set. Very classic earsetting and size.

COAT: ex. clear points, soft silky and close lying. Really fully developed points to for his age. Ex.lilac colour.

TAIL: ex.long, tapering. Could be a bit more tapeurs, a bit thick on base.

CONDITION: super showcondition. Lovely condition, very sweet and gentle.

GENERAL IMPRESSION: Lovely. Young boy who still needs time to develop.

Tjabo as three months old kitten (now he is about four times bigger :) )

His proud owner Agneta is very happy, and so are we! :)

Congratulations and many thanks to Agneta for showing Tjabo!

25 days to go

Jocke took a few pretty pictures of Jossan today. Her tummy is a bit shaved because of the ultrasound exam. Pretty cat! :*

Look at that profile!

Also, we got some exciting news from Norway. Three weeks after Arwen’s and Albert’s date, there are the signs! Arwen’s tummy is getting rounder, and her nipples turned a stronger shade of pink. Look at the pretty tummy pictures here!

Ada and Alfred, 5 months

We got the latest picture of Ada and Alfred from their beloved matte. They are so pretty! Ada is blue (darker) and Alfred is a lilac point Siamese (lighter in color).

I suspected since they were three weeks old that Alfred was not lilac, but chocolate, and later I settled for caramel lilac, since his color was slightly different (warmer)  than his two lilac brothers’ and Leroy’s and Jossan’s lilac color, but I registered him as lilac. I am still not quite sure what his exact color is, in 1-2 years one can be certain if he is caramel lilac or “just” lilac.

Caramel color modifier was not registered in Sweden earlier, not for Siamese (but it is registered in England, for example, and the cats we imported from England that were caramel lilac/caramel blue got registered as lilac/blue in Sweden). Caramel modifier makes the diluted colors like blue and lilac a bit warmer in tone. Also, the fur gets a special metallic sheen, at blue based caramels. A chocolate or seal point Siamese that is a carrier of caramel modifier looks the same as the one who is not; caramel is not visible on undiluted colors.

I melt when I see Jossan’s babies pictures, they are our little furry babies also, and I am delighted to see them growing and hear that they are so much loved and taken care of.

We also got news about Ash (Archimedes). He weighs 3kg! A big guy! He was so tiny when he got sick, but he struggled like a lion and ate like he was the biggest feline on Earth after he recovered. Now he is one big and fluffy Siamese kitten, that is almost as big as his 3,8kg heavy Cornish Rex friend Misty.

Fireplace

It is getting cold in Stockholm and we lighted a fire for the first time this autumn last week. Albert never saw a fire before and he was completely hypnotized by the view. And – the warmth! The sounds!

Later when the fireplace cooled down he jumped over the protection and put his head into the chimney. He looks like panda now. I managed to clean his body, but not around the eyes.

But this is how it looked when there was fire!

Last week we tested Leroy’s blood values, urea and creatinine, and everything was fine. We checked him once earlier, before he was paired with Hannah. We also tested Josssan before she was paired. I thought to test the cats every few years, because one can detect problems with kidneys well before the symptoms show. If the issues are detected early, a change in cat’s diet can prevent illness and a possible kidney failure. Siamese are not more predisposed to urinary tract diseases than the other cat races are, but I feel that if there is something one can do so that they can live long and healthy lives, I want to do it. And that includes occasional tests.

Antoine in Luleå

One of the lilac point boys, our little Antoine, was the first to move. He went with his new matte Agneta and her son Josef, who came to get him, all the way to Luleå (800km from Stockholm)!

Being our most talkative kitten (the lilac ones are real talkers), he had a lot of opinions during the travel, but after Uppsala he complained only when Agneta was changing the speed.

On their way to Luleå, they spent one night at her friend’s place, where Antoine promptly discovered everything there was to be discovered. The next day he arrived to his new home where he met Frasse (Frostuddens Frans Albert), a blue point 4-year old Siamese neuter guy. After a day or two of introduction, everything worked out fine for them, and look how the things are now! (Thank you Agneta for sending us pictures of your little darlings!)

Frasse is a real friend; he caught a mouse (a real one!) as a present for Antoine and is trying to get him to follow outside, but Antoine is too young for that.

Antoine talks when he wants something and when he visits the litter box, likes to lie in his matte‘s lap and is social with visitors. At first he sits still and observes them when they arrive, then he goes forward and greets them and socialize. He even falls asleep in their arms sometimes.

Antoine’s pet name has not been decided yet, he is called mostly Tjabo or KomKom for now.

Here is a picture of Antoine taken on August 27th.

He looks a lot like Jossan when she was small, but I think he will have more space between his ears, and they will be more open in the base. But the nose, eyes, chin, the whole face and the body lengths are exactly like his mom’s.

Buy a kitten from us!

Edited, August 2010: all the kittens have moved to their new homes, except for Albert, the white Siamese, that we decided to keep.

July 2010: Our homepage is up, and the ads are out.

Here is the link to the ‘Buy a kitten from us’ page – in Swedish, and here in English! The kittens can move to their new owners in the middle of August 2010 at earliest.

Leroy and the kittens

Grandfather Leroy was curious, excited and a bit scared from the day one, but now when the kittens started crawling around he really likes to jump in the play-pen to lick and watch them.

He even went into the tipi when Jossan left them for a minute and licked the ones who slept there.

We were very cautious with Leroy being around the kittens, since he is male (although neutered), and the small ones took away his Jossan from him, but he is behaving well so far, and we are always close when he is with them.

He was a very good father when Jossan was small and brought her up, so we guess he will be a good grandfather also. Only, when Jossan arrived, she was three months old. These kittens are small and very fragile.

Still, he is very careful around them and when they attack him in huge numbers, he moves to another place.

Almost there… day #59 or #57

We are not sure if the first day of pregnancy was Monday the 15th of March or Wednesday, two days after that. Goofy and Jossan did not kiss and tell, not really. But Jossan is so unbelievably big, and the kittens are moving a lot at times.

It is amazing to just sit and watch the small ones move inside of her. She could deliver any time starting from Sunday the 16th of May to Sunday the 23rd of May. We do not know how long it will take, this is her first pregnancy. But we are almost there!
