After a longer time

It has been a long struggle with TF (Tritrichomonas Foetus), but at the end all of our cats tested negative; the last one more than a month ago. Several of them who got negative earlier tested repeatedly negative with a month apart between tests.

We checked the two oldest of our kitties, Leroy and Maven for all the blood values after the medications they got, I was worried if they could influence¬†something else, beside killing the parasites. And – all of their values are perfect. ūüôā When cats get older (Maven is 8,5 years old, and Leroy is turning 8 in December) we should¬†follow up their blood values now and then to catch some things (like problems with kidney or liver function) before it is too late to correct the problems with a change in diet or medications.

Leroy’s blood values 4 weeks after finished TF treatment and a negative test

I am happy that they got no side effects during the treatments against TF (except for a bit drier mouth and eyes, which went away immediattely after medicating). But I must say one thing РTF is hard to get rid of, we needed repeated treatments and to go up in dose. Some cats got TF-free only after a doubled dose of medication. I got too exhausted of TF mentally, and physically and will just not write about it, and not think about it for some time and enjoy the cats being healthy, cat litter boxes with no foul smell, and all the number #2 products of a lovely consistency. That makes me happy! Just coming home, opening the door and feel only good smells in our house feels so good. So good!

We may be having plans in making for kittens next spring, but for now we are just enjoying the company of our beloved mini lions with no mini-minis at sight. I am happy with how harmonious and well functioning group they are; I am not totaly sure why that is, and if I knew the recipe for a successful pack, I would gladly share it. Hmmm, what could it be?

Maven - being a Siamese is a state of mind. Well, a half- Siamese.

Maven – being a Siamese is a state of mind. Or – a half- Siamese… Or – whatever.

I think the first reason is that they are pack animals, as real big lions (Siamese that is; Maven, being a non-Siamese, but brought up with them, just got adjusted. being a Siamese is partly a state of mind!). The next biggest reason is the King – Leroy, who takes care of everyone, both other cats and humans, and does not allow any silly mobbing or dysfunctional or asocial behaviour. And then – Jossan, small and slender, but, at the same time – a real Queen, she decides who, when and where is allowed to do what, and everyone has respect for her. But, she is nice, not like a dictator queen. ūüôā Also, cats in general are not like dogs, they do not have a clear hierarchy, but they have roles, and all of them are important for the whole pride¬†to function and live well.

Another reason is that they are not bored, they have plenty of good places in our house to sleep at – comfortable sofas, cat beds, cat trees, window places to watch the birds and humans that pass by our house, water bowls and food bowls places in different rooms. They get to hunt small cat candy pieces, eat fresh food (or, fresh -. defrosted meatballs made of raw meet, especially for cats) at least twice a day. We cuddle and play with them, a lot. To me they seem happy. They are also in good health. TF was a hell, but other than that, they have been always mostly in good health (Albert’s injury and a dramatic constipation he had two years ago aside).

There was recently a challenge going around on Facebook to post 5 pictures of cats we brought up, a friend challenged me and I did it, choosing not the most favourite cats (since you do not have those, you love all of them with whole of your heart), but the photos I like the most. Here they are, again.

BTW, Elric who moved out first of our E-litter, both FELV, FIV, giardia and TF negative, was mated to two other also tested and all negative and healthy Siamese ladies and the first litter is about to come to world in about a week! So exciting!!! He is a pet, not a breeding cat, but his human Mom was kind enough to let him become a dad before becoming a happy neuter. I am so grateful for that Рhe is amazing in his looks and temper and his genes should be passed forward. He got to date two chosen ladies that are a good match for him, and have great human breeder Moms that will take care of his offspring as well as we would.

Cats are healers

I was sad lately, and, although I think that our cats are very affectionate every day, I noticed a change in intensity, especially with Albert and Jossan.

Jossan is following me as a post stamp follows a letter, from the moment I come home from work to the next morning when I depart to work again. She even talks to me in new ways. Albert comes and takes care of my hair and has cuddling sessions more often than usual. All of our cats are loving and I love them all the same, but Jossan and Albert are a bit special in a way, they don’t care about other humans as much as they care about me.

When Jossan sits in my lap while I write mails or make jewelry, I feel happy and content. I thought about that recently at one point when I became aware of the whole situation and how good I felt, with my little loving cat in my lap – that was happiness in one of its forms, right there, right then.

Jossan: “Helping my human. That pearl does not fit there!”

Jocke got his working corner in our living room recently, where he, in his turn, set up a cuddling corner for our cats. It is mostly Maven and Leroy that sit there while Jocke works on his hobby projects.

2012

Many things happened in our cats’ lives in 2012.

Albert was the cat of March month on siames i fokus, a mostly Swedish/Norwegian social site for Siamese and Oriental cats.

Albert (again) fell and fractured his breast bone on Easter which bothered him until late summer, when he was successfully operated. Now he has recovered and is jumping happily around as he did before the fall.

"It's mine!"

“‚ô¨ ‚ô™ You ain’t nothin but a hound dog… ‚ô¨”

We managed to put a removable net on our balcony and furnish it so that the cats could safely enjoy the fresh air.

Leroy and Maven on the balcony and the net between them. No, this is not how it should be! ūüė¶

Amazing mother and my beloved one-human-cat Jossan delivered six precious kittens (C-litter), who were raised and taken care of by the whole cat family for the first 3 months of their lives when five of them moved to their new permanent homes where they are very loved and taken care of.

Jossan, the queen of our castle

We kept Claire, a kitten cared for by all the other cats, a little clown that loves all the cats and humans equally.

Claire – I mostly care about mice!

Leroy had a lump in the skin (yes – ‘in’, not ‘under’, there is a difference, and his was more likely to be malign) removed in the summer. Luckily that turned out to be only a lipoma. So, basically, he got his first liposuction this year! (I am joking now, but poor him, we were so worried) He was x-rayed and all his blood values checked on the same occasion and he is a very healthy, now a 6 years old cat!

Maven took many walks with us outside in our neighborhood where we have very little traffic and many pretty houses to look (and sniff) at. She and Miii spent a substantial amount of time with us in the garden, helping us.

Leroy was (unjustly?) pronounced fat by his humans and exposed to various methods of torture. One of them, putting him on a special diet for overweight cats, made him go UP in weight even more! Well, that is over now. Buying a new toy (Da Bird) and wrestling with Claire seems to keep him in shape. In spite of what his humans think, he got ‘Excellent’ as condition mark from both judges on the exhibitions he attended.

Yes, the exhibitions – Leroy and Claire were exhibited and that went great. We might do it again some time.

The cats got a few new beds and furniture that they seem to like.

MiiiWinter2012

Miii – warm and cosy

Our cats were very much loved, played with and well fed during the whole year, as always. Sisters Jossan and Miii turned five years on December 27, and not only them but their two siblings from the same litter, also Leroy’s kittens – their handsome brother Gandhi that lives in Denmark and sister Noora that lives with one family in Stockholm. Happy birthday, dear cats!

Jossan and Miii spent their birthday lying close to and caring for their humans that fell ill with a bad influenza and were in fever for days (getting better as I write this). Our beautiful, beloved cats with big hearts whom we love so much, we wish you happy birthday and every other day! We are so happy to have all of you in our lives.

And to mark their fifth birthday – Miii was a model for our Christmas and Happy New Year card this year and I am working on a small painting of Jossan that will be finished when I feel better.

I’ll post a picture of the painting of Jossan when it is done.

Much love and happy New Year from Jelena and Joakim with the cats. ♥

Maven sleeping

Maven fell asleep on the top of the back of one of the kitchen chairs!

I took a picture carefuly trying not to wake her up and scare her. I did not want her to fall!

It happens that some of the cats fall asleep on an odd place now and then. It also happened a couple of times that we heard a thud, ran to the source of noise and found one of our sleepy kitties completely confused, looking up at us from the floor, wondering what just happened! Luckily those things do not happen too often.

Last Sunday in November

Less than a month is left to Christmas! We started putting the decorations; so far the new curtains are up and yesterday we put the stars in the windows.

Our little helpers in action:

A black smoke bun, someone?

I have no clue how Maven manages to fit in such small boxes and baskets!

Albert, giving a helping paw as always:

My humans have no sense of composition!

Our cats adore the blankets we use during the winter; they are soft and cosy.

The Siamese pile

Miii chooses Jocke

About two months ago, we went away for a vacation and our cats spent eight days in a cat hotel. That was a new place, that they never visited before. It is close to where we live now.

It was the first time we picked the cats from a cat hotel that they were cuddling with the lady that took care of them! She really spent a lot of time with them and she seemed so sad when we got them. But, we were happy!

After they came back home, Miii decided that Jocke should be her human. I was always her preferred human. Although we planned that she will be Jocke’s cat when we got her, she picked me, there was no help. Jossan ¬†was pretty pissed off because of that and it took them a long time until they worked out how to share me. But now Miii decided that both Albert and Jossan is too much to share a human with and decided that she is best friend with Maven and that they share Jocke! Maven is not so delighted with that; Maven likes to be close to humans, not to other cats. Siamese like to sleep close to humans and close to each other, on the Pile.

"You and I, we are best friends!" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "Oh, no, a Siamese..."

When Miii came to us, 2,5 years ago, she was very shy and hid from people who would visit us. She became more and more brave and social, but that happened slowly. Last week she yelled at one friend that came by and demanded that he pets her! Then she jumped in his lap and purred and demanded more petting. She did a similar thing to another friend that came by last Tuesday.

Miii discovered that you can get what you want from other people too, not only us, her humans. ūüôā

Everybody loves sheep

A month ago we bought a sheep-shaped soft pillow that caused a lot of excitement in our cat group. It is funny with cats. Sometimes you buy them a toy you are certain they will love, but they do not care about it all. At other times, some, in your eyes, very boring thing becomes an immediate hit. We thought they might like the sheep, but we did not expect that it will be so popular. (We bought the sheep in Chilli, they have a store close to where we live).

Maven was the first to hug, pet and take care of her sheep friend. She would clean herself, walk all over the sheep, put it in the right shape and then sleep on it or beside it.

But, then, Leroy also liked the sheep. He was jealous of Maven and stole the sheep whenever he could.

Leroy also loves the sheep

Then the other cats wanted the sheep as well.

After a few weeks of occasional quarreling about the sheep, we went and bought them 3 more sheep! One in beige color as the first one, and two white ones.  Of course, NO ONE wanted any sheep when there were so many around, but after a few days, everyone loves sheep again.

Everyone loves sheep!

Albert property laws

This is Albert’s first Christmas and he is delighted with all the ornaments! He likes to drag and carry them around, and chew on the branches.

I’ve tried real tree, plastic tree, hoping he will leave something alone, but, nope – he likes it all, nothing is safe and everything is tasty.

Every morning the poor Christmas tree is disintegrated and the ornaments lie all over the living room.

The worst was when he just discovered the beauty of everything that goes with Christmas. ¬†Now, two weeks later, Albert is a bit less creative with his constant rearrangements of our living space, but still not uncreative enough, to put it that way…

I am helping!

Tasty!

How do you mean - I can't eat that?

Yes, I can!

Why are you here? That is mine!

You too! Go away! Mine!

Crowded? No! There is always enough space to fit me! And - more glitter!

A cat and a mouse

Maven really likes our new house, it is big and it is messy (for now). Oh, joy!

Maven is a black smoke cat (her fur is warm in tone in the autumn, since she spends a lot of time in the sun in the summer, and the fur gets lighter), and here you can also see that the bottom half of her fur is completely white! (The silver gene makes it white). If we would shave off the tips of Maven fur, she would be mostly white! ūüôā

Mess

This is how it looked on the upper floor when we just moved in. Jossan and Leroy are exploring the new space.

And this is how the living room looks a week later. Maven likes to lie in boxes, but bags are also good. Soft plastic bags are dangerous for cats in the same way they are dangerous for small children and we are trying not to leave them around. This is a bag made of thicker and harder plastic.

I am sorry about the flash, Maven! (Though it is funny, those shiny eyes make Maven look like a little cat-robot!).

Here is a bigger picture of a small part of our mess:

Moving soon

The moving company truck is coming in 8 hours. We still have so much to pack and also, we have to disassemble some pretty big pieces of furniture. We have 2 more weeks to move, but then we have to do it ourselves, by car. We are trying to pack as much as we can now.

The cats are helping, of course!

Miii is checking if everything is closed properly.

‘You are not leaving without me!’

Leroy is tired, he has been helping us all day. Albert and Jossan are taking a nap as well:

I am tired and just now I wish I were one of my cats…

Back to packing!

Maven wants Jimmy Choo’s

Maven, our black smoke kitty, is a real snow cat.¬†Her fur is thick and fluffy, yet silky, and she feels no cold even when it is -10¬įC.

I wanted to get her some little snow boots for cats, but she refuses to have anything that is not made by Jimmy Choo!

Well, dear Jimmy Choo or whoever is behind that brand; luckily for you, my cat does not weigh more than 4 kg and I can carry her easily when her little paws freeze.

Still, if more cats are as picky as our Maven, I would recommend that you better start making some fancy models for our little feline friends, because they are spoiled and they know what they want; they want – Jimmy Choo’s!

I am not so sure that taking an afternoon nap with your head on the phone is such a good idea…
